South Dakota or bust...Next month I'm doing a Midwest Road Trip.
Starting from Ohio, my co-driver and myself will be heading out to Rapid City, South Dakota. On the outbound leg that takes us across the states of Ohio, Illinois, Iowa and South Dakota (1200 miles approx). After spending a few days around Rapid City to see such sights as Mount Rushmore, we will be returning to Ohio via Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Illinois (1400 miles approx). I've allowed 400-500 miles a day. so that's 3 days on the outbound and 4 on the return trip.
To put that into a UK perspective, the distance from Land's End to John o'Groats is 874 miles.
Am I nervous? you bet! Apart from the prospect of seeing some amazing scenery, there is the opportunity to see (or avoid!) some extreme weather as this part of the US is known as Tornado Alley. Maybe there's a little bit of a reckless streak in me? I'll be monitoring NOAA Weather Radio very closely, as well as the various weather site on the internet. We will have at least two cameras between us, I'm anticipating plenty of photos and maybe even some video. Oh, and I nearly forgot the bears...

Intrepid and tough I'd say. You will need a holiday after the trip. Storm photos to look forward to
Thanx for comment - severe weather in UK will be NOTHING compared with that American stuff. Seen rain storm in Oz which was like nothing I've ever experienced before, but tame compared with US stuff. Just hoping you survive to tell tale!
Have a good time, and I look forward to the photos!
