9 States & Back

Well we made it to Rapid City, SD and back to Dayton, OH, a distance of just over 3000 miles.
We travelled through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska and Missouri.

Missed the storms and tornadoes, One hit Kirksville, MO, the day before we crossed Missouri and another band followed on the day afterwards.

I was amazed by the wide open spaces we crossed. We chose to avoid the main interstate routes for the majority of the trip and roads were just deserted, such as this one, probably US20, somewhere in Iowa.

Visited several tourist attractions - Bandlands National Park, Wall Drug, Mouth Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Devil's Tower, Deadwood. Out of these, Crazy Horse was probably the most impressive, being a work in progress to turn a mountain into a statue of one of the Native America leaders.

But most of the time it was just plain old hick town USA. Middle America at it's best. Petrol at around $2.20 a gal(US). Coffee at Pilot Truck Stops. Cold vegetables.

You've actually seen more of the USA than I have! Heh. I hope you avoided highway hypnosis and were able to keep the driving steady - those crazy deserted roads can make you really sleepy.
